Josiah Strong

Occupation: Reverend who supported Darwinism, author

Josiah Strong was for expansion as well as the annexation of the Philippines, however he was merely motivated by the ideas of racism, religion, and nationalism. Strong believed the what he deemed Anglo Saxton people (English speaking Americans) were superior and the "dominant race (Tallant)." These ideals as well as others were argued in Strong's 1885 publication Our Country: Its Possible Future and Its Present Crisis. Strong believed that the Anglo-Saxton people "had an obligation to spread political liberty, Christianity, and civilization (U.S)."
